Fort Zachary Taylor Beach: Even though you must pay a small entrance fee, this beach would be the first choice for a relaxing day at the beach! The beach itself stretches over 1000 feet and has a much more beautiful setting compared to other Key West beaches and is also less crowded.

Beautiful pine trees cover the area in front of the beach if you feel you want to get out of the sun and enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the many picnic tables under the shade! Snorkeling from this beach is probably the best in Key West for beginners. Snorkel gear and refreshments are available at the Park snack bar as well as other items that come in handy at the beach just in case you forgot a few things! While snorkeling you will encounter many species of marine life so make sure that you don’t forget that waterproof camera!

Fort Zachary Taylor beach is also a state historical site! The park can be entered by car, bike or by walking into from Truman Annex at Southard St. Restrooms and fresh water showers are also available next to the snack bar inside the park!

Smathers Beach: is probably the most visited in Key West and also the largest. Spring Breakers always flock to this beach every year and enjoy fun in the sun! Smathers Beach is located along A-1-A (South Roosevelt blvd) just west of Key West International Airport. Plenty of parking is available on both sides of South Roosevelt Blvd. And be sure to check out all the different sidewalk vendors selling all types of stuff such as hotdogs, ice cream, drinks, suntan oil, shades, beach chairs, water rafts and much more! Water sport activities are also available from Smathers Beach! Be sure to make reservations with BoomerWaterSports before you even head over to the beach!

Dog Beach: is my Golden Retriever’s favorite beach because it is the only beach where dogs are allowed to frolic in the water and on the beach! You may see BOOMer and Brisco over at this beach quite often and watch Brisco fetch coconuts out in the ocean! Feel free taking your pooch to this special beach but be sure to keep an eye on your pet and clean up after!

Dog Beach is located right next to one of my favorite restaurants, Louie’s Backyard at 700 Waddell St., on the corner of Waddell and Vernon. It’s safe to say that this beach has gone to the dogs! Hope to see you there!

Clarence C. Higgs Memorial Beach: is a favorite for families with children! Located just a half mile west of Smather’s Beach you can enjoy the many picnic tables and pavilions for those family picnic get-togethers! It is at the south end of White St. on Atlantic Blvd. Across the street from Higgs Beach is a sand playground for children called Astro City!

Tennis courts are also across the street from Higgs Beach and are free to the public! West Martello Tower and Garden Center is also available for you to venture into at Higgs Beach! Rest assured that public restrooms and fresh water showers are available at Higgs Beach as well! Make sure you bring the sun block and enjoy a nice day at the beach!

Hungry? Call my friends for food delivery at Front Porch Café for really good food to go and they will deliver right to the beach or your hotel room before you head to the beach! Also Check out the restaurants tab for a list of restaurants.
